A bit on the lighter side...
« on: January 14, 2010, 03:08:02 PM »
Lately there have been a lot of conversations about hitting the "reset button", fishing bamboo for fun, and other ways of "decompressing" when things get stressful.  Paul Thompson spends a good bit of his time capturing special outdoor moments on canvas and via a variety of other mediums.

I've been following Paul's blog at http://www.sagedogstudio.blogspot.com/ .  The coolest thing is that you get to see Paul's work "in progress"...and the progress he makes in a single day is simply amazing.

Paul doesn't know I posted this...but I think it's worth sharing.

Thats a cool site.  I really like that musky picture.  He certainly knows his craft for sure.  Thanx for sharing that.

That's cool stuff! I remember back in the days of my youth, before I discovered trout. I grew up bass fishing and would spend time sketching bass and bluegills,  in pencil mostly. It's amazing how much you can draw from memory. This is a true testament to time spent in the field and on the water. Keep up the good work. Makes me want to start again.  ;D Good work Paul.

I spent many wonderful summers chasing big bucket mouths on our lake near Java, NY in my youth.  Not sure exactly when I became an exclusive trout snob - probably late teens when I started caring more about how people perceived me.  Tell you though, I've been romanticizing the thought of pursuing bass once again.  I have that video short "Alpine Bass" from www.catchmagazine.net running periodically through my fishing day dreams.  The thought of hiking into the wilderness and lazily floating around in a belly boat casting through the Lilly pads.  I guess Gierach's palatable depiction of the "16 ponds" doesn't help much either :)
