Cooperative Mini-comp/Practice
« on: December 18, 2009, 01:45:15 AM »
Hey guys.

There's been some discussion about members of the forum coming down south to fish...especially since everything in the northeast will soon be frozen over!  This might be a great time to setup a mini-comp or shared practice with Team TroutLegend.

We'd include all forum members, of course.

Hopefully we can make this a common occurrence.  I know I'd love to get up to the NE and fish their historic waters!

That's another area where this cooperative could really pay off for all involved.  As we forge friendships and meet anglers from other regions, we'll have better knowledge of where to fish when we visit the area, where to camp, and maybe a couch or two to crash on!

I have extra space for people to crash if this becomes a reality

the only cost is a dozen flies and pack of lunchmeat ;D

Lots of good water down here...or so I hear

I would maybe interested. It sure does sound like a great idea.  When are you thinking as a time for holding this.

Definitely interested.  Just not sure if I can handle the expense.  All though it wouldn't be that bad if you boys had enough "guest rooms" to house us and we commuted 3or4 to a car.  Let's kick it around.  I'm sure Mark and I could probably make the trip/event depending on details.  Rob is always gungho to get back down south too!

I bet we could put something together in February or March.  We might even be able to schedule something in proximity to one of the tournaments.

I live in/near Charlotte, so it's 2 1/2 hours to the best waters.  I do have a Cabela's outfitter tent, however, and it has a woodburning stove.  We'd be warm, and we could probably find a campground with showers.  The tent is 12 by 20, so we could get 5-8 guys in it no problem.

Josh...do the Davidson River sites have shower access?  Is that campsite closed for winter?

Another option is to meet midway.  I fish WV whenever I can...

Davidson River Campground is open year round...$20 a night

There is also a ton of free camping in the area, just not shower facilities.

I am game for this.  I think it would be a great way to start laying ground work for inter-team  chemistry.  I guess all we need to figure out is when and where?

I'd say that around March/April would be a good time. It can be a little chilly in March, but it will seem like Florida to you NE boys...

Anytime someone is flying or driving into the Charlotte area, just let me know.  I'm an hour or more from the nearest trout stream, but you're more than welcome to stay with me and ride to the water.

It would be great to know the approximate date of Team USA regionals, as that would certainly drive a lot of practice sessions, especially if a regional was being held in the NE or SE.

Hey Mark,

We're planning an inaugural run in a new location February 27th.

To my knowledge, it's the first time a "mini-comp" will have been held on this piece of water, so I'd like to iron out the kinks before I ask any of you to drive 9 plus hours to participate.

On that note, I'll be sending an e-mail to Chris Lee/Paul Bourcq with details.   We hope you guys will want to participate.

All of this is said with the best of intentions.  Weather, unexpected conflicts, and life in general have a way of changing plans.

Hey Dejon, Mark...

I have had the privilege to fish against these guys on the Nanty.
They are a class act. I'd love to get down there again. Count me in. The only prob is that my current mode of transport is crapping out. Working on another set of wheels. Carpooling would work great for those interested.
Keep me informed please.
Thanks,
Tim

Between Team NC and Team Stonefly, my guess is there will be a competition every month if not every other month.

While you are certainly welcome to attend the event on the 27th, I didn't plan on submitting this one to the cooperative for points.   Therefore, you may want to hold out for one that counts towards the ranking system.

My guess is we could put one on in early April...after the Pisgah and before the Olympiad.

Hey Larry.

I'm going up next week to layout beats.  Look for an e-mail with time and location details shortly thereafter.

We could use one individual as a backup judge, simply to accomodate an odd number of anglers.

If everything goes well on this first run through, we'll see if we can't put one on for the entire cooperative.

Sounds good Chris - keep us in the loop.  Mark and I are trying to hammer out the plans for a coop competition in NW PA possibly in May or early June - we'll let you know.

Good luck to you guys on your first comp. That's a kind gesture to donate part of the money to the Wildlife Eductaion Center.
Really wish I could be there, but I have other engagements that weekend.
