I'm confused  85 grams equals

http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/cooking-conversions/gram-conversions.aspx

2.98 ounces right?

so 3 and almost 1/2  (or 7/16)  would be closer to 98 grams for the Z-Axis right?

help me!  I'm an English teacher!

here are some other rod weights(roughly!) for reference:

Orvis Helios 10' 4 weight 70.8 grams-2.5 oz

Admira 10' 3wt  86 grams-3.03 oz

Modern Flies Technia 10' 3/4wt is 90 grams-3.17 oz

Sage 99 9'9" 4 weight 90.5 grams-3.19 oz

Echo Shadow 10 ft 3wt (3100) 92 grams-3.25 oz

Cabela's CZN 10ft 4wt weight 94 grams 3.32 oz.

Greys Streamflex 10' 3wt is 94 grams-3.31 oz

Echo Shadow 10& 1/2 ft 3wt (3106) 96 grams-3.38 oz

Greys Streamflex 10' 4wt is 96 grams-3.38 oz

Sage Z-Axis 10' 4weight 98 Grams-3.4 oz

Echo Shadow 11 ft 4wt (4110) 101 grams-3.57 oz

Guideline Le Cie 10' 3 weight 107 grams-3.7 oz

Loop Opti Peak 11' 3 or 4 weight 120 grams-4.2 oz

As a general reference a 9 foot 5 weight

z-axis is 90 grams or 3 3/16 oz

9 1/2 ft 5wt
Winston Boron 2-MX  96 grams or 3.38 oz

If your like me you got used to using the Loon Light Touch 10' 4wt and now everything is a feather. I still like that rod though.

I hear you Nick.  I really do love fighting fish on the Loon rod epically the 3wt.

I'm sorry pete, you're exactly right - I totally input the ounces wrong to get grams in my online calculator for the z.  As the old saying goes: "don't drink a bottle of wine and then try to post on the internet!"

Yeah I can only imagine the 3wt. Its the best when some people are around and a 14 incher has it bent to the cork. They think its a 25 incher or something.

you know the total weight of that Loon 3wt is around 110 I think...so it's not outrageously heavy---not light either!...

I still like that rod too...you basically would have to lose the rod downstream in the current to lose a fish...lol

It has cook spaghetti action!

Its not actually the weight of the Loon rod I think its the balance. Which is IMO actually more important for that light in hand feel.

I should take some pics of my rod so you guys can see what its gone through. The best being it was stepped on a kid and broken in half. I put it back together with monocord and a few heavy coats of hard as nails. Now it has character. That's only the first one, I have two.

No doubt Pete.   I really like the rods  fish fighting ability.  It is great for fighting fish.   I can't wait to see how your new rod is on the water.

Pete,

I must say I am really impressed with the amount of work that it sounds like you have put into these rods.  I am sure it will pay off and show in the final production rods. Thanks for keeping us posted on the progress.  How many different prototypes have you work through to get to the point where you are now?

5 prototypes so far,   mark... :P

thanks for the kind words...it has definitely been a challenging process...and it's been fun too

I'm cautiously optimistic at this point...sometimes you hit on the "right rod action" in the first run of rod design, sometimes it takes a few years to get it right...

hopefully you guys will help us refine the rods if they are not there yet...

Bret is pretty geeked up about the 3100 at this point...  I would have to agree with him...the flex, accuracy and speed of the rod is right on imo...

here is what I posted on TPO about Tim and Echo rods...  he loves to break rods!

latest prototype weights are:

 model number            latest prototype weight

ECHO SHADOW 3100-4:               98g

ECHO SHADOW 3106-4:              104g

ECHO SHADOW 4110-4:              110g

the rods that ship will "perhaps be" a little lighter...  maybe as much as 2-5 grams off of each rod
