Not to confuse things, but is "high sticking" purely a technique to fish nymphs, or can it be used to fish dries as well?

A lot of guys in the Smokies "high stick" a dry/dropper.  In short...keep everything off the water save a small amount of tippet, thus eliminating any drag that might pull the flies out of pocket water, etc.

btw, there's gotta be a whole lot more to add to the lake section, eh?

Ouch!!! Direct hit! You've sunk my battleship... :P

I can take a hint Dejon, but I am not sure if the rest of the site members speak "Canadian" as fluently as yourself.  ;D

I'll try to add something to your list as soon as I am able to find the time. :)

high sticking a dry is fine davey wotton high sticks wet flys ,on a three fly rig the top fly acts as a dangler while the middle can be like a dry or an emerger and the last fly is the anchor of the system . so high sticking is a realitive term ,when you high stick nymphs you are only using a long leader and maybe a bit of the end of the fly line and using it as a feel method so to speak .ive only played around with this alittle ,but having a longer rod helps cover more of the river and helps you place your casts

It was meant only as a friendly little jab.  I'm surprised and delighted that you even picked it up:)  Please take your time Todd - you've all ready added a full year's worth of posts in your short time here! many thanx

You guys are absolutely right.  "High sticking" is probably more a universal "arm position" of many different techniques.  That's one reason I added the following line to the "Dry/Dropper" entry:   "Working" this rig actively with a raised arm/rod rather than the normal cast/drift method can be key.

Do you guys think I should just axe the "High Stick" nymph entry?

Entirely your call Dejon.  You could even include it in all three categories (dry, nymph, and wets). Either way, there's a lot to learn.

Should we have a universal techniques section?

I thought with all the new members in the last month or two I would bump this up to see if we get any new stuff to add.

We have a lot of new members on since this list was active.

I wanted to bump it up and see if anyone had any additions/refinements.

SOFT HACKLES!? Definitely a technique in its own right. Double soft hackles worked up, up and across, down and across - we even just wiggle them in and around rocks directly downstream.

Would you consider double dry fly a separate technique to single dry?

Also, we fish a lot with double MF nymphs worked dead drift and as a living insect - not sure what you would call it, its a combo of French and Czech (without the Czech nymphs).

Also, with still waters, my FAVORITE technique is Di3, 2 un/weighted flies and a booby on point - this allows me to fish 3 water levels at once.

Only double SH's? Don't be a wimp! Fish four, north country style--20 casts a minute! Every trip is a workout!

Aaron

(btw I love soft hackles)
