I have some questions about curly sighters. I know that there is TONS of information on here about them but that is why I need to start a new thread (TMI). I just need some simple opinions so please bear with me. I do not do much nymphing with alternative techniques but I am starting to experiment. Really my frustration comes with indicators. I hate all that I have tried with the exception of thingamabobbers but even those irk me. Is it reasonable to toss a curly sighter into to my set up even if fishing more traditional techniques? I ask this because I worry that fish are taking the nymphs "on the drop" (as they are sinking) and that the indicator doesn't register this well because of any slack present. I also ask this because I find indicators troublesome, awkward, and general a distractor for me. Second question is more technical and I am sure covered in other threads. Where exactly does the curly belong in the leader set up? My assumption would be to go fly line to mono-curly-mono rig - to leader or tapered leader setup. Is this correct? Thanks again and I am sorry to stir this up, the other threads were a little too detailed for my understanding of the technique. I appreciate the help.

My advice would be to experiment with just a coiled sighter for one whole day. Then start to mix in whatever other devices you have been using.

Try this leader forumula: Fly Line - 9ft Tapered Leader - Curly - 2ft 3x - 3-6ft 5x - 5x Dropper (2 fly rig Anchor/Dropper).

Thanks guys. Tim that article is nice thanks. Dejon Thanks for the set-up recommendation that sounds like a perfect start. I guess everyone else can disregard this thread at this point but thanks for the help. I will let you guys know how it goes. I'm pretty excited about the change to drop indicators, and of course catching more fish is nice too.

And give it an honest chance. I hated curled sighters , but never give them a chance. Once I used one for several days I refined my leader and technique it was on. Its amazing how just one or two curls can change alot so keep that in mind and expieriment!
