Yeah, Jason "inherited" those formulas from his dad, Gary.  "Presentation" is one of the best fly fishing books I've ever read.  Too bad it's out of print, now you have to pay $150-300 for a copy of it.  Hope they do another printing of it.  The dead-drift leader works great for indicator nymphing.

Torrey,
Yea I got lucky got an autographed copy from Davy. From your experience which is the best terminal tackle set up from his formulas for Euro Nymphing?

The term Euro Nymphing didn't even exist when he wrote the book, so there is no Euro Leader type formula given.

He likes 25# & 12# Maxima for his trout butt/mid sections in his Uni-Body leader, so he would prob do something like .020/25# down to .013/12# in whatever total length suits what you are trying to accomplish (short, medium or long leader).  The 25# would be longer than the 12# for better turnover.  The sighter would go next, and then whatever length of fluoro tippet (4x, 5x, etc.) is appropriate for water depth/leader length/technique employed- typically in the 4-8 foot range, but could be slightly more or less.  That would be my best guess.

If you want it straight from the horse's mouth, contact him through his blog at garyborger.com- I emailed him a question and he answered it pretty quickly.

I've been using a 25/20lb Uni-Body leader in various lengths for a few months now. All though it gets the job done I always leave the stream wishing it was a bit more responsive.  Looking forward to the 15' Rio Steelhead Leaders that are in the mail...

My current leader might be a winner that I was using yesterday.  What is funny is its the one I tied on the stream when you and I last went fishing D.
