Deja Vu from Idaho
« on: November 08, 2009, 05:42:46 PM »
Can I just copy and paste everything that Bret so eloquently wrote in his greetings post?  But seriously, it is great to read so many awesome posts from all of the great anglers on this site...I've been lurking on this site for a long time and have learned so much!  I'm also an English teacher from Boise and a fishing guide out of Jackson Hole in the summers.

Bret have we morphed into genetic clones yet?  creepy! :-[

Welcome aboard Pete! Can you ask Loon to make more of your sig. model 10ft rods please? ;) Seriously I love that rod.

I won't creep you out any further by quoting from Euro Nymphing with Vladi and Jack.

I enjoyed your work there and hope to learn more.  Welcome to the board.

I've been lurking on this site for a long time and have learned so much!

Mighty kind and big words coming from an accomplished angler such as yourself Pete!!  Seems like I'm always gushing with thank yous, but I sincerely appreciate you signing up and adding your voice to the knowledge pool here.

For those that aren't familiar Pete Erickson and Competitive Fly Fishing are almost analogous in these fine United States.  He's a long time member of Fly Fishing Team USA and accomplished competitor in numerous World Competitions.  http://www.flyfishingteamusa.com/team_members_2008/pete_erickson.htm

Ahhh the Loon "pro model"   well I have a love hate relationship with that rod...when Dan from Loon asked me to do a signature rod for him, I figured it might be cool for someone in North America to offer a Euro-Nymphing rod.  The designs we sent to Asia and the rods that came back were two completely different things.  I was pretty disappointed with the rod's weight, tracking and accuracy, but bizarrely happy with it's ability to land fish and lob anchor flies.  Bret kicked butt with that rod in several tourneys---I think he even used it in the 2006 Nationals where he won gold(is that right Bret?).  I still use the Loon 10ft 3wt in certain competition situations.

to make a long story short...Loon cant afford to be in the rod business and doesnt really want to either ;)  The Loon rods are history.

On the other hand last year Tim Rajeff contacted me to design a polish/czech rod for his Echo series...it's in its 5th prototype now and will be available soon...its called the Echo Shadow PE and will come in 11ft 4wt and a 10 1/2 ft 3 wt and probably a 10 ft 3wt(french style).  the rods will be around $329.00--not sure how much for pro deal.

11' 4wt for 329?! Sounds very sexy.  My antennae is up and interested for sure.

Pete, have you seen/shook any decent 12 footers out there?  Is it an impossible length?

Dejon,

Tim and I were talking about a possible 12 footer.  but we have had so much trouble getting the 11 footer to not fish like a club, that we shelved that talk...I wouldn't be surprised if someone in Europe is up to the task as we speak(type?).

damn fuzzy foreigners!

Pete,

Can't we convince anyone over at Sage to subvert the "Z" for our evil purposes????

Thanks for the head up on the ECHO hopefully it ends up being the type of rod we are all looking for out of the US rod companies.
