Welcome Todd!  Really honored to have you on board!

For those who don't know Todd Oishi is a multiple gold medal winning competitor for the Canadian National team.  He's competed in 3 world championships as well as multiple commonwealth and US Nationals.  Almost more importantly than many of those honors he is considered by many reputable names as one of the top Stillwater anglers in the country and quite possibly the continent.

Thanks for the kind words and for such a warm welcome everyone!

Sharing ideas and observations on gear, patterns and techniques that are used by fellow fly fishers is one of the reasons why I am drawn to competitive fly fishing and wonderful places such as this forum. I also enjoy the social interaction and reading the reports while learning more about the fisheries that defines angling in your part of the world...

I fly fish for a variety of fish species in all sorts of waters. Our stillwater season is currently drawning to an end - just as the Pacific Salmon fishing in our rivers is reaching its prime.

Here's a shot I took of a Westslope Cutthroat Trout that I caught last month in a lake that is situated high within the heart of the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia:

Jeez that is a great shot!  I really want to get out west for some cutt and grayling fishing some day!  I am just such a home body though  ::)  I seem to want to fish where I live... when I lived in North Carolina I became addicted to the small freestone streams with little wild bows and brookies.  Now in WNY I can't get enough steelhead.  I guess that is good that I like the fish I live near though ... it saves me money  ;)

Thanks thelow! We are always happy to see visitng fly fishers in my part of the world.

Here's a shot of a grayling that I caught during the springtime. Take a closer look at the fly reel for a reference of the size of this specimen...

Welcome Todd
That is a beautiful grayling, much bigger than any I've seen here in Utah. Nice to have an incredible stillwater angler on the forum. I will be picking your brain.

That grayling must have been a heck of a fight on such a tiny rod and reel!   ;) ;D

That's just how big we grow them up here in Canada (a diet of Maple Syrup and Canadian Back Bacon will do that - don't you know...)   :D

By the way - that rod is a ten-foot XP   ;D

Wow. Got any good bacon-fly patterns? Preferably articulated.  ;D ;D ;D

It looks like some beautiful country up there in the Great White Northwest. Thanks for sharing with us. We will all benefit greatly from your presence on the TL board.

Todd,

It's great to have an angler of your caliber on the board.  I hope we can give back in some way, shape, or form.

Completely unrelated, do you know where the 2010 Canadian Nationals will be held?  I know Bourcq and several of us "southern boys" are looking to compete.

Best,
Chris (wvyou)

Thanks again for all the kind words and for such a warm welcome!

Chris, the 2010 Canadian NFFC will be held in Roblin, Manitoba. All five sessions will be held on lake venues, and will be fished loch-style.

Cheers,
Todd
