Hello from Idaho
« on: November 05, 2009, 12:57:33 AM »
My name is Bret Bishop and I am from Boise, Idaho. I am a high school teacher and a fishing guide. My life evolves around education in one form or another and I would like to think of myself as a life long learner. That is why I like the idea of this site...I look forward to learning from each of you. Thanks, Dejon, for the invitation.

Really honored to have you here Brett! For those that don't know Brett Bishop is one of the top competitive fly fisherman in the United States and a member of Fly Fishing Team USA. Brett took gold in the first National Fly Championship and has been an integral part of the team since then.  Almost more importantly than that he's a really down to earth and accessible personality. http://www.flyfishingteamusa.com/team_members_2008/brett_bishop.htm

So tell me.  Does teaching mix well with angling?  I'm thinking of going for my Masters in Education.

Thank you for the welcome.

Dejon,

Teaching and Guiding? It works for me. It is nice to have my summers off. And just when the rigors of guiding are wearing me thin, school starts again. Plus guiding is nice supplement to a teachers wage. Can't you make a living off this site? ;)

First, welcome Brett.  It's great to have a fellow educator on the board.

Dejon...I think teaching and guiding (and/or competitive fishing) are very viable combinations.  Like Pete, I taught English for several years and always found a way to get out on the water.

Now I'm locked in the district office 12 months out of the year, taking precious time away from fellow anglers via "staff development".   Life is funny sometimes.

I think I forgot to mention... I am an English teacher too. I also run a fly fishing club at my school. Which reminds me, if anyone has any used gear they would like to donate I have several kids in need.
