European nymphing primer
« on: January 13, 2010, 10:32:40 PM »
I came across this, and thought I would share it with everyone here. It's a good primer for European nymphing.

The entire team at Blue Quill is great.  Be sure to check out their Czech nymph section in the online store...there's some good stuff in there.  Steve also makes a very sensitive coiled indicator.

They're good guy's, earlier this fall when I was really becoming interested in euro nymphing and before I found this site, I went there to pick up one of Steve's czech indicators, and hopefully some insight. They didn't have any of the indicators out on the floor, so Steve went in the back and made one up for me free of charge. Now I know It doesn't seem like a big deal, after all it's only backing, but it's the small things like this that earn my respect and business.

Sorry if I took this off topic.

I found out, to no surprise that it was Steve Parrot who put this guide together. Great stuff! Stateside, there's no better resource for the competitive fly fisher than Blue Quill Angler.

That's a spectacular resource. I'm a little upset though... it looks a lot like the book I was writing :(

Very cool. I liked the format. I also like the fact that the piece gives credit to the Polish for developing the short line style. However, the way the author differentiated between Czech and Polish nymphing confused me. Anyone else? The loop dropper tag, while a cool trick for non-competitive anglers (since it is against the rules), is not the difference between these techniques. Nor is the number of flies or the anchor position the difference. It is simpler than that...Czech nymphing is Polish nymphing. The Czechs are just better at marketing. Vladi is the man!

I'm really psyched I get to use the following phrase:

Indeed, it does seem to be a common misnomer doesn't it Bret?
