Fly patterns?
« on: June 30, 2009, 08:40:54 AM »
Would you guys bi interested in a weekly or monthly fly pattern with photos?  I am thinking of doing a Spring Creek Selection of flies or maybe some easly terristerial patterns for the summer.  So what would you guys want to see and I will get to work on it.

FFPA

I think that is an awesome idea. For a novice, the visual aids to go along with the posts would be very beneficial.
I would like any of the below scenarios:
1) fly-tying tutorial with pics and directions - a fly of the month type deal or something along those lines
2) pics of actual flies and their imitations
3) pics of flies native to particular streams or regions with time of the year associated with it -  kind of like a hatch chart

I can only imagine that these might be somewhat cumbersome at first and right now I do not have the know-how to help. However, I am getting into fly-tying in the near future and woould definitely help build this if it were to get started.

But these are only ideas and if they are not what you were thinking, then that is cool. As I said, I wouldn't be able to contribute right off the bat and wouldn't want to pass the buck to someone else.

Thanks for your ideas and willingness to start something like this FFPA.

Like it.  Always interested in new patterns.  Are you thinking of step by steps or pics of the final fly?  I prefer your spring creek idea.  While you're at it please feel free to send samples to each of the 83 members of this forum.

I will see what I can come up with on this one.  It will start slow so give me some time for the first one but if we keep getting thunderstorms in my neck of the woods it may happen a little quicker.  I dont see 83 patterens being sent out any tiem soon.

PA, this sounds like a fantastic idea.  If you get something solid going I would be happy to  make them stickies and/or regular additions to the front page.

I don't think I will ever have the patience to put together step-by-steps, but I do plan on doing a natural/imitation hatch chart for this region.

First crack at it i am thinking more of a picture and basic materials list.  Maybe a little back ground story.  The step by step is somthing i will save for the fall and winter when I am not fishing as much.
