I'm at my desk tying often as of the past few months. I have noticed that after about two ties my neck starts shooting pain down my back. I feel good throughout the day but when I tie I'm in pain. Does anyone have have any suggestions besides Gin 7 and lemon and 4 advil to remedy this problem? I'm thinking my desk is to high and I need a shorter chair, or maybe my bad posture is catching up with me and mom was right, "keep your shoulders high."

are you looking down at your vise. it helps to have the vise set up at as close to eye level as you can get it.

How long are your tying sessions? I'm usually good for about 30-45min before I have to get up and walk around. Do some stretches. Check TL for posts;) Getting your vise closer to eye level might be the ticket too though.

I wanna see some pics shaggy! I know you've been holding out on us:)

I too had a lot of difficulty posting pics to the site. In site suggestions at the bottom of the forum page, you will see a thread started by me regarding posting pics. Take a look at that and if you have any other questions, just post them in that thread and I or somebody else will reply to it to help you out.

I am about to enter the world of fly-tying so I am glad you posted this thread so I can be aware of posture at the bench

I tie almost every day and back pain starts almost immediately. I'm good for 4-6 bugs then it's time to get up and have a smoke or walk around for a minute. A couple things that I do are get a thick pillow to put on your chair and also get close to your vice. If you are to far away it strains your back and neck. Also don't get stressed out while at the vice. Sometimes I'd rather have a tooth pulled than tie but it needs to be done and is supposed to be fun.

If those suggestions don't help try seeking the advice of Mr. Jack Daniels or his good buddy Captain Morgan.

The smoke sounds great, but I quit and been smoke free for a month-lol

Has anyone experimented with massage parlor type chairs? At last time I got a massage I was in a chair that had a pad for my butt and I leaned toward the front of the chair which had a pad for my chest. The whole time I was thinking 1. Man I hope I get a happy ending-and-2. This would make a great chair to tie with.
